World Of Lies Bio Page

Bio Summary:

World Of Lies formed in the 2nd half of 2001. The original idea behind the band was to write material that bands ususally do at the start, in the middle and towards the end, After listening to many best of CDs by their favorite bands WOL decided to shape the band in this fashion. Not just write all the songs brutal, but have some brutal, some slow, and even some in other catagories of extreme metal. After some line up changes mid 2002 they released their 1st CD called Material God. Many good reviews and show were to follow.

Between 2002-2004 they played many shows opening for acts like Severed Savior, Vulgar Pigeons, Skitzo, Meatshits, Ludrica, Dr. Know, Bile, Nocturne, Martin Atkins, Exhumed, Dekapitator and also cut a new CD what was released as World Of Lies. Less than a year after releasing World Of Lies the CD things went seriously wrong for the band and it was taken with the songwriter/ singer/ guitar player Tony Avila with him when he moved to Portland, Oregon.

Picking it back up again in Oregon many shows were played to promote the newly released CD between 2004-2006. With some more member changes WOL was able to get on a CD tribute for the band Nunlslaughter. World Of Lies also put the final touches on their new recording which were relased and called the "Thorns EP" in 2007.

Long Bio:

The band was formed in 2001 by Tony Avila and Dave Phillips as a side project of their band Eulogy. Right after the 1st Eulogy record was recorded the band broke up due to personal and musical differences. The same year as the demise of Eulogy, Dave and Tony worked hard on practicing and writing a new record, different than the death metal serial killer style that Eulogy was known for, more on the melodic death/ thrash/ grind side with social, political and personal lyrics. 15 songs (8 recorded, ther others seemed to far out of the spectrum to fit into the set) were in place and a lead guitar player by the name of Chris Dann was recruited into the fold, at that time he was playing in 2 bands Shrine Of Scars and his own band Bled. His skill and style was a very match for the band. The search went out for a bass player to finish the line up but a perminent player was not found. The band started playing right live after the record was finished.

A friend of the band by the name of Paul Suchoski of Sons Of Chaos accepted the duty when asked by the band and learned half of the songs in a short amount of time; the band entered the Digitsound Studio in late 2001 and recorded their 1st CD (Material God). Paul was too busy to keep playing in the band and so the search was on for a bass player again. A friend of the band heard a demo of the album and was impressed and came down to try out for the spot, his name was Kevin Ryan, he was well known among the home town scene and was very skilled and worked out great. Dave Phillips threw in the towel as a metal drummer and was replaced by Daniel Hynes, a younger local shredder. Chris also left soon after and at that point the band was a 3 piece. The Material God CD was released in 2002. Between 2002 and 2003 World Of Lies saw the return of Dave on drums and Chris on guitar only to have them for one reason or another leave again. This left the line up of Tony and Kevin.

The original Eulogy drummer Dan Van Kuren was sough after for the spot, he was currently playing in a band called Kuru, he figured he had the time and since the bands were different it would be cool and agreed to join. Soon after that Paul from the original recording sessions had a fall out with his band and was looking to keep playing music. He had played bass and did the vocals in Sons Of Chaos, played bass on the 1st World Of Lies CD; surprisingly he was better at lead guitar, he was great on bass but really shined on guitar and joined the band perminently as the lead guitar/ 2nd vocalist. A 4 song recording session took place in the end of 2003 not only 3 months after the new line up was in place. This session was to be released as a single called Gardens Of The Dead on vinyl but ended up being packaged for downloading directly off the website and was distributed that way.

New songs were written with the new 4 piece line up and World Of Lies entered Digitsound studio again to cut another CD in 2004. This time the band revisited some of the tracks from the 1st CD + all the new songs they had up until that point. The new CD was called World Of Lies, self titled. The band played many shows in California to support the CD but the line up would once again suffer losses. Kevin quit and later Dan left too. Tony decided to move the band out to Oregon and start over. Paul stayed behind, with the idea that he would come back for tours and or recording.

2005 now in Oregon, the band found new players, Wayne Nabor came in on drums and Matt Sutphin on lead guitar, The band started playing live again in the Oregon area promoting the Self Titled CD. This line up lasted around 6 months. Matt ended up leaving and was replaced by David Henderson. Around that same time Leon Wojack joined the line up on bass and the 4 piece line up was a whole again. World Of Lies spread out farther into Oregon area supporting the self titled CD. In mid 2006 new songs were being written for a 4th recording. It was around this time World Of Lies learned of the death of Paul Suchoski, very saddened the band continued on...

In the end of 2006 Wayne became too busy to continue in World Of Lies full time and step out of the band. The word went out and a drummer's band (Sumara) that had played wtih World Of Lies before by the name of Devon Berliner came in and adutioned, he came in right at the end of 2006 and the band started recording in January for a new single at Tony's RGP Studios.

At the start of 2007 World Of Lies started recording the Thorns EP and released it on vinyl and CD.Right as World Of Lies was about to start recording for the Thorns EP a offer came in to be on the Nunslaughter Tribute CD so World Of Lies did a fun little track called "Visions Of A Satanic Priest" for the album and submitted it. It hit the streets mid/ late 2007.During this time Leon and David both left the band. Jake Neely and Ned Leadhead took over on Guitar and Bass shortly after the release of the Thorns EP. In this time period somthing interesting happened. The main songwriter/ only original memer Tony Avila had a realization after reading what was a joke on David Henderson's myspace page. David said he played in the Tony Avila Trio, which made Tony think to himself, in a way it was kind of true and since it was kind of true, at that point the scope and focus of the band changed. It opened many new/ old doors for the band to explore that were in Tony's past. The idea came around that time for the next record. World Of Lies would rerecord what they wanted from the 1st 2 CD's since both are out of print instead of repressing and a new album. The next World Of Lies album will be a double disk one of old (new recordings, current players) material and one disk of all new material.

At the end of 2007, Devon left the band and luckly the band knew who to call. Mickey Widmer had been in contact with the band for a couple of years and Mick and Tony had been jamming a side project earlier in 2007. The side project/ jamming got the 2 used to each other styles and personalities so it was the natural step and or replacement for Devon.

Currently World Of Lies is recording for a split release with the band called Toe Tag (Blaine Cook, Alex Maggotbrain & O'Ring Steve Nelson from The Accused) due out in early/ mid 2008. Tony will take the studio to Toe Tag and get their portion of the split and soon after record World Of Lies version. The CD version of the split will be released in Germany on A2O Records and and 7" Inch Vinyl version will be pressed distributed by the bands.

Keep an eye out for more info on this split soon, The Accused had a major impact on World Of Lies growing up influence wise so the split will be very interesting for all! There is a good possibility of some west coast dates being added to support this release.........
